South Clyde Energy Centre (SCEC)

AXIS advised Peel Environmental on its proposal to develop an integrated waste recycling and recovery facility on land off Bogmoor Road in North Cardonald, Glasgow. The principal processes to be carried out at the plant comprise the receipt, storage and processing of non-hazardous waste, including the recovery of recyclables from residual waste. The recyclable materials would be exported off-site to an appropriate re-processing facility with residual waste formed into a refuse derived fuel which would be combusted (in a moving grate incinerator) on-site to generate energy. The overall development would be capable of handling up to 250,000 tonnes per annum of waste, with an electricity generating capacity of up to 24 MW, of which 21 MW would be exported to the local electricity grid. AXIS project managed and led the preparation of the planning application and EIA, which was submitted on 25th June 2012. It was approved unanimously at committee in December 2012.

Client: Peel Environmental
