Planning Permission Granted for a Sustainable Energy Facility at Hooton Park, Wirral

Full planning permission was granted for the Hooton Park Sustainable Energy Facility (known as the HOPSEF); an advanced energy recovery facility employing gasification technology on land off North Road at Hooton Park Industrial Estate, Eastham, Wirral.

AXIS co-ordinated the planning application and EIA, together with project managers from Biossence Hooton Ltd. The development will accept 400,000 tonnes per annum of waste feedstock comprising primarily of commercial and industrial (C&I) waste, although it may also take similar, pre-processed municipal solid wastes and will generate up to 49.9 MWe (megawatts electricity) gross, of which a portion would be used within the plant itself, leaving up to 43.6 MWe (net) to be exported to the local distribution network.

The application was determined at the meeting of the Wirral Council Planning Committee who voted overwhelmingly in favour of the development.
