conservation
The UK has long been subject to the pressures of competing land uses and has an established system for the conservation of the country's historic and environmental resources whether they are features of heritage, nature conservation or landscape importance. AXIS is involved in a wide range of conservation issues ranging from working for governmental bodies on the preparation of conservation strategies, to working for developers, with the same agencies, on the assessment, evaluation and mitigation of development proposals to ensure that conservation features are appropriately protected.
AXIS staff experience includes:
- preparing county and district wide landscape character assessments
- preparing landscape and nature conservation enhancement strategies
- studies to support landscape and heritage designations
- designing ecological enhancement schemes for the conservation of a wide range of fauna and flora
- designing mitigation measures to protect and conserve a number of European protected species
- assessing the effects of development on protected/designated archaeological and heritage features and developing mitigation measures where appropriate
